The Summit honors the sustainability achievements of the university, recognizes leaders who help create a more sustainable campus as Sustainability Champion Award recipients, and provides student programs and groups with an opportunity to share their accomplishments over the last academic year.

Join us at the 5th annual Sustainability Summit as we honor the sustainability achievements of the university, recognize Sustainability Champion Award recipients, & hear from Dr. Becca Hernandez, global leader in research on environmental aspects of energy systems.

This year's Summit is a registered World Environment Day activity. Join us in the effort to #beatplasticpollution.

Sustainability Champion nominations for the 2023 award season are now CLOSED. However, applications are accepted year round and nominations for 2024 may be submitted.
About the Award

UC Davis Sustainability Champions are environmental leaders on campus—students, staff, and faculty/academic staff—who exemplify why UC Davis continues to lead the way in sustainability efforts. Sustainability Champions are selected from amongst nominees by a diverse review panel and announced annually during the Sustainability Summit near the end of each academic year.

  • Nominator Information: Name, Campus Affiliation, Campus Department & Address, UC Davis Email, Phone Number, Affiliation with Nominee, Anonymity Preferences.

    Nominee Information: Proposed Award Category (Academic Staff/Faculty, Staff, Student), Name, Campus Department & Address, UC Davis Email, Phone Number, 3 questions requesting explanations and examples of how the nominator feels the nominee meets each of the evaluation criteria goals, 2 questions regarding clarification on whether the nominee's job duties require sustainability promotion and how they exceed these responsibilities.

    Keynote Speaker for 2022 Summit:  Leah Thomas

    Leah Thomas, eco-communicator, activist and founder of the organization Intersectional Environmentalist, was the keynote speaker for the 2022 Summit. Our campus's Carbon Neutrality Initiative fellows, Mariah Padilla and Aleesa Palmer interviewed Thomas about her perspectives on environmental justice, its intersection with aspects of cultural and racial identities, and her new book, The Intersectional Environmentalist: How to Dismantle Systems of Oppression to Protect People + Planet.
